ABSTRACT

Online learning is being considered a new model of knowledge exchange in modern education. In parallel with the incredible impacts of the global pandemic, this is considered an opportunity to promote the development of online learning globally. Therefore, this study proposed a research framework including four factors affecting learner satisfaction towards online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic at a university, which are system quality, service quality, transformational leadership, and self-efficacy. A questionnaire was conducted online to assess which 131 respondents were representative students from two large private universities in Da Nang: FPT University and Duy Tan University. The results from the regression analysis show that three factors have a positive impact on learner satisfaction during COVID-19. This study concludes that students at private universities in Da Nang prioritize system quality as the most significant factor in their satisfaction with the online learning system, followed by transformational leadership and the last one is self-efficacy. Therefore, it can be more strategic for private organizations, developers, software designers, or even transformation-trained trainers to be emphasized to build a system of processes for implementing online learning for students effectively. © 2023, Institute of Advanced Engineering and Science. ABSTRACT

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the negative impacts of the Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) emergency on small- and medium-sized enterprises' (SMEs) business continuity (BC) by examining the moderating role of corporate governance principles (CGP) on SMEs' BC in the context of an emerging market. Design/methodology/approach Based on an extended literature review on the negative impacts of the COVID-19 emergency, CGP and BC studies, the authors evaluate the impact of these constructs on SMEs' BC in an emerging market. This paper follows a quantitative approach. The study sample was composed of 334 responses covering directors, managers and owners of enterprises. The Smart PLS SEM version 3.3.2 was used to analyse the data from SMEs of Vietnam in the year 2021. Findings The findings of this study clarify the areas of the COVID-19 consequences that negatively affect the BC. In addition, this study reveals that CGP moderates the links between COVID-19 outcomes and BC, whereby good CGP can facilitate a business to reduce the adverse effects of COVID-19 on BC. In addition to this, good CGP can help a firm to enhance its capability to respond to fluctuations in the external environment of the business. Originality/value To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first research that examines the moderating role of CGP. The originality of this study is that it gives an insight into how SMEs in an emerging economy overcome the adverse effects of the COVID-19 emergency on BC to keep their business going, and moreover, have the ability to move towards sustainability in today's challenging context. This study provides the theoretical and managerial implications that may be of great interest to the academics, business practitioners and policymakers.

ABSTRACT

The pandemic has caused several health issues and deaths and numerous severe devastations to the global economy. Due to the extreme impacts of the epidemics, it is crucial to investigate the pandemics and their pessimistically hidden influences to devise proper strategies. However, although this topic gains enormous recognition from scholars and researchers, there is still an inadequacy of a comprehensive literature review on the issues, and in-depth research on individual aspects of the world economy. Accordingly, the objective of this paper is to contribute a literature review that synthesises and evaluates prior research, to examine the current state of the pandemic impacts on the global economy, as well as become the requisite foundation for the practitioners to perceive how to respond to a pandemic in the future. A literature review is conducted, with 254 most relevant articles are analysed and classified based on the proposed framework. Thus, the findings of this study contribute diverse theoretical and practical insights concerning pandemics and the global economy. The results of this paper indicate the current status of the literature review and discover future research directions. Additionally, this paper proposes an integrated framework of the most influenced industries, followed by some emerging solutions to the most suffering sectors. Future research directions arc further suggested based on the identified research gaps and the analysis results.

ABSTRACT

The Covid-19 pandemic is spreading worldwide, the demand for controlling and screening fever is increasing very rapidly. Some traditional methods like using thermometers or medical checking cannot handle many people in crowded areas such as airports, train stations, or buildings. Some thermal imaging systems are used to control people's ins and outs. These systems help many governments decrease and prevent viruses' spread by screening human temperature based on skin radiation. Despite all of the advantages this technology has had, this system's very high cost is one reason to prevent some organizations from applying it despite the high potential of image processing, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things. This paper will present a system combining a low-cost thermal camera and a standard RGB camera for screening fever combined with attendance checking. The experimental results show that this proposed system can be applied in many areas, from universities to buildings, with the minimum cost and acceptable performance. © 2021 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

This paper investigates the impact of the U.S and China equity markets on global equity markets during the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, we compare the contagion of global equity markets, their volatility persistence, and the volatility spillover effects from the U.S and China to other countries in pre-pandemic and during-pandemic periods. We find evidence of significant contagion effects from the U.S and China stock markets during the COVID-19 pandemic period. Further, we observe that the nature of stock index volatility does not change and there is weak evidence for volatility spillover effects during the pandemic period. © 2021 Economic Society of Australia, Queensland
